Three in a row at Salters’ Festival
A team of four Year 7 boys was awarded first place for a demanding challenge at Salters' Festival of Chemistry, making it the third year in a row that Hilden Grange pupils have returned from the Festival with a prize.

The pupils competed against 14 other schools at the Festival, which took place at the University of Canterbury.  They had two challenges to tackle.  The first was a forensic task, in which they had to identify unknown powders and a ‘suspect’.  In the afternoon they were given a number of chemicals and challenged to use these to create a ‘clock’.  After an introduction to photofit software on the computer, which they all had a chance to try their hand at, the prizes were awarded, and the team was delighted to hear that they had won first prize for the morning’s challenge.

Mrs Tait, who took the team to the Festival commented, “They did very well and showed great commitment in their working, particularly in the morning challenge.  I was very proud to have taken such a well behaved and focused group of boys.  Well done to them all!”
